The Opportunity

Svitla Systems Inc. is looking for a Senior Data Engineer for a full-time position (40 hours per week) in Costa Rica. The client is the first “on-the-way” crowdsourced delivery platform. They put extra space in passenger vehicles to work by connecting people with items to send to drivers heading in the right direction. The collaborative model enables fast, flexible, scalable delivery that reaches 90% of all U.S. households. They work with consumers, small businesses, and extensive global brands to help with same-day and urgent deliveries nationwide. The community of 200,000 verified drivers has delivered to more than 20,000 zip codes — the country’s most significant local same-day delivery footprint. The client makes it easy to launch same-day delivery with no set-up time or expense with their mobile and web applications. At purchase, customers can request a pickup in minutes and track their delivery from pickup to drop-off in real time. They work with top retailers, airlines, and grocers to provide a faster, more efficient, and more scalable solution for same-day and last-mile deliveries nationwide.

Requirements:

• 5+ years of experience working with data systems, data warehouse solutions, and ETL/ELT.
• 3+ years of experience with workflow management tools such as Airflow.
• 3+ years of experience with PostgreSQL and MPP databases such as Redshift.
• 4+ years of experience building data infrastructure and platforms using streaming frameworks such as Kafka, Kinesis, Flink, Spark Structured Streaming, etc.
• 3+ years of experience developing and optimizing dbt models, implementing best practices, and ensuring data quality through testing and documentation. Strong knowledge of version control (Git) and integrating dbt with modern data warehouses (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, PostgreSQL).
• 3+ years of experience using CI/CD tools to build and deploy projects.
• 3+ years of experience working with DevOps tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, EKS, Helm, Terraform, etc., to own end-to-end deployment of data engineering projects.
• 3+ years of experience with one or more languages/frameworks such as Python, Scala, Spark, PySpark, Java, and Hadoop.
• 4+ years of experience with scaling production systems, ideally in a start-up environment.
• Knowledge of OLAP data stores such as ClickHouse, Apache Pinot, and Druid.
• Knowledge of cloud-based architectures on AWS, GCE, or similar.
• Understanding various data visualization tools such as Redash, Superset, Tableau, Lightdash, and Power BI.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have:

• Experience working with Databricks, Qubole, Snowflake, or similar platforms using Spark, PySpark, and Scala.
• Experience with application and front-end development.
• Experience with AWS Zero-ETL.

Responsibilities:

• Take ownership of setting up, configuring, and managing self-hosted data engineering tools.
• Work with the Data Engineering team to develop features for the dashboard tool.
• Develop customer-facing frontend features and customization in React.
• Stand-up pipelines for building, testing, and deploying dashboards-as-code in the business intelligence tool.
• Support and upgrade the dashboard deployments, monitor for issues, and provide triage support when needed.
