The Opportunity
This Senior Data Engineer position is remote within the U.S. and involves building big data collection and analytics capabilities to derive insights about customers, products, and operations. The role requires working with a geographically distributed team to develop efficient, secure data pipelines and operationalize data science solutions using tools like Databricks, Redshift, S3, Lambda, DynamoDB, Spark, and Python.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement data pipelines for processing and visualization across projects.
- Develop and maintain data architecture using AWS native services.
- Design and optimize data models on AWS, utilizing Databricks and AWS data stores.
- Integrate large, complex datasets to meet business needs.
- Extract, transform, and load data as required.
- Manage integration tools, databases, and analytical systems.
- Process unstructured data for analysis and assist in data analysis.
- Collaborate with technology and engineering teams to align data processing with business objectives.
- Monitor and optimize data performance, uptime, and scalability.
- Create architecture and design documentation, and support technical planning and reviews.
- Provide training and support on architecture and technical knowledge.
- Build relationships with other teams like Engineering, Marketing, and Product.
- Stay current with emerging trends and recommend innovations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- 3 to 8 years of experience in Software Engineering, Data Engineering, or Big Data.
- Effective team collaboration skills in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of or experience with Databricks and Spark.
- Software development skills in Python, PySpark, Kafka, or Go, with a willingness to learn new languages.
- Experience processing large structured and unstructured data sets.
- Knowledge of data cleaning, wrangling, visualization, and reporting.
- Ability to explore new solutions and apply industry best practices.
- Familiarity with databases, BI tools, data quality, and performance tuning.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Comfort working asynchronously with distributed teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with AWS services like S3, RDS, Redshift, DynamoDB, EMR, Glue, Lambda.
- Experience working in an Agile environment.
- Practical knowledge of Linux.
