Job summary

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Senior Data Center Civil Engineer to lead civil design for prototype and regional data center sites. You will guide design teams, mentor engineers, and ensure adherence to site criteria, utility layouts, and regulatory requirements.

You will work with architects, structural and MEP engineers, and AHJ partners to optimize costs, timelines, and safety while supporting rapid data center deployment across the Americas.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field.
• Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region.
• Experience owning and leading significant projects from concept to deployment.
• 10+ years of progressive site civil engineering experience focused on large-scale industrial, commercial, and mission-critical developments.
• Previous hyperscale data center development experience is preferred.
• Licensed Professional Civil Engineer (PE) registration is required.
• Demonstrated expertise in the design and construction of large-scale industrial utility and distribution systems, including domestic water, sanitary sewer, industrial water and wastewater, stormwater management, medium voltage duct banks, fiber optic networks, and construction phase services including problem solving, RFI, Submittals, etc.
• Expert-level proficiency in mass grading, drainage design, and earthwork balancing.
• Strong knowledge of geotechnical engineering principles, retaining wall design and environmental compliance.
• Significant experience managing site entitlement processes, permitting, and coordination with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ).
• Proven ability to research and implement innovative design and construction methods to reduce project costs and accelerate schedules.

Responsibilities

• Manage external civil design consultants through the Data Center design and construction process.
• Review designs for site layout, mass grading, grading and drainage, power substations, dry and wet utilities, pavement.
• Lead permitting, development, and civil design and construction coordination of multiple data center campuses regionally.
• Assist, coach and mentor lower level engineers.
• Coordinate with internal and external architects, structural, and MEP engineers, security, environmental and geotechnical engineers as a technical resource.
• Own and develop cost and time efficient data center site layout with grading, utilities, and road patterns.
• Communicate design standards to internal and external project partners.
• Develop and maintain design standards, template drawings, and specifications for site civil design.
• Create, review, and release design RFPs for DCs and special facilities.
• Foresee and manage expectations regarding project-specific cost and schedules.
• Develop and lead cost/quality/schedule improvement initiatives.
• Travel 15 to 25% for site assessments, meetings, and interfacing with AHJ.
