Job summary

LinkedIn is seeking an experienced electrical engineer to own the electrical design review and validation for our data center power systems. The role covers utility to rack distribution, with oversight of interdependent mechanical and cooling systems, arc-flash studies, and BOD standardization across regions.

You will lead due diligence for new sites and expansions, qualify equipment, and help negotiate colocation leases with clear capacity delivery and SLA requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, Process, or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of experience designing, constructing, commissioning, operating, or maintaining mission-critical infrastructure.
• 5+ years of direct experience with data center design, construction, field engineering, commissioning, or major infrastructure retrofit programs.
• Experience in data center electrical power systems from medium-voltage distribution through backup power and rack-level distribution.
• Familiarity with data center mechanical and cooling systems, including liquid cooling infrastructure.
• Experience evaluating electrical and mechanical infrastructure interdependencies, system redundancy, and failure scenarios in mission-critical environments.

Responsibilities

• Own electrical design review and validation of data center power systems from utility to rack-level distribution.
• Review mechanical, cooling, and liquid cooling system designs and assess interdependencies with electrical power systems.
• Perform electrical studies (load flow, short-circuit, protective coordination, arc-flash) and develop resiliency models.
• Lead updates to LinkedIn’s Basis of Design (BOD) for consistency across regions.
• Evaluate and qualify new electrical/mechanical equipment and components for standardization.
• Lead technical evaluation of new sites, expansions, and data hall fit-outs.
• Lead technical due diligence and negotiate leases with capacity delivery and SLAs.
• Partner with data center providers to define and enforce lease SLAs and capacity constraints.
• Oversee design and construction of new data centers, expansions, and retrofits.
• Define commissioning and IST requirements for new spaces and upgrades.
• Contribute to liquid-cooling deployment strategy and monitoring tools.
