Job summary

The U.S. Pharmacopeial Convention (USP) in Rockville, MD seeks a Senior Data Center Engineer to maintain and optimize our enterprise data center.

You will manage uptime, performance, capacity planning, and DR planning while overseeing deployments, integrations, and vendor coordination. The role requires 7+ years in data center operations, with VMware expertise, clustering, SAN storage, databases, and middleware; hybrid cloud experience with Azure/AWS is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field; 7+ years of progressive, post-bachelor’s work experience.
• Experience deploying and managing VMware virtualization of Windows and Linux servers.
• Experience with data center management tools, monitoring tools, and reporting tools.
• Experience providing senior‑level data center support and problem resolution.
• Experience with clustering technologies (Red Hat HA, Windows HA) and SAN storage.
• Experience with databases (MS SQL, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL) and middleware (Apache, Tomcat, PHP, NodeJS).
• Experience with network protocols (SSL/TLS, DNS, DHCP, WINS, FTP, HTTP, SMTP, SNMP, CIFS, LDAP).
• Experience in hybrid multi-cloud environments (Azure, AWS) and IaC tools (Ansible, Terraform).
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes; SSO standards (SAML, OIDC).

Responsibilities

• Monitor and maintain USP’s enterprise data center operation and stability.
• Oversee data center support, break/fix issues, and new installations.
• Troubleshoot data center issues to ensure uptime and availability of infrastructure and applications.
• Manage capacity planning, performance metrics, and SLA compliance.
• Coordinate with vendors and professional services during projects.
• Maintain data center documentation, patch management, and disaster recovery plans.
