Job summary

Etched is hiring a Data Center Engineer to own end-to-end data center and hardware lab environments in San Jose. You will oversee facility selection, rack design, power distribution, networking layout, cabling, hardware management, and long-term capacity planning.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on data center engineering or operations experience.
• Experience designing and deploying high-density compute environments (≥20 kW per rack).
• Strong familiarity with structured cabling and high-speed networking hardware.
• Ability to read electrical diagrams and facility documentation.
• Experience with monitoring tools and DCIM environments.

Responsibilities

• Own rack layout, capacity planning, power distribution, network design, cabling, and deployment across data center and hardware lab environments.
• Design and manage power distribution and redundancy architectures for high-density AI compute deployments.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to build and manage hardware labs for bring-up and demos.
• Negotiate contracts with co-location vendors and enforce SLAs around power, cooling, security, and connectivity.
• Architect and implement high-speed networking (100G/200G/400G) with compute, storage, and network teams.
• Maintain asset management systems, rack diagrams, and change control processes for full visibility.
• Develop monitoring/alerting for environmental health and respond to hardware/facility incidents.
• Lead capacity planning cycles aligned with hardware roadmap and procurement planning.
• Establish security procedures and audit trails across data center sites.
