Job summary

OpenAI is seeking a senior Data Center Infrastructure Architect to design and optimize the physical infrastructure for large‑scale AI deployments. You will craft system‑level architectures spanning power, cooling, IT gear, and controls while developing digital twins to simulate behavior under varying workloads.

You will lead cross‑functional teams, evaluate tradeoffs, and drive efficiency, reliability, and deployment speed.

Qualifications

• Significant experience designing or optimizing hyperscale data centers.
• Broad knowledge of data center electrical and mechanical systems.
• Experience making system-level design decisions across multiple engineering disciplines.
• Experience developing or applying simulation, optimization, digital‑twin, or physics-based modeling techniques.
• Strong understanding of data center efficiency metrics (PUE/WUE) and total cost of ownership.
• Experience working with operational telemetry and translating behavior into design improvements.
• Ability to evaluate complex tradeoffs across performance, cost, schedule, scalability, and sustainability.

Responsibilities

• Define system‑level architectures for high‑density AI data centers across power, cooling, IT equipment, controls, and facility infrastructure.
• Develop digital twins and other computational models to represent system behavior under changing workloads and configurations.
• Use data to identify constraints, improve PUE and related metrics, and optimize capacity and deployment schedules.
• Evaluate tradeoffs across electrical topology, cooling architecture, rack density, redundancy, and maintainability.
• Translate AI hardware requirements into practical facility and power architectures.
• Establish reference architectures, modeling standards, and validation methodologies for deployments.
• Partner with software, data, controls, hardware, mechanical, electrical, and operations teams to connect models with real infrastructure.
• Integrate telemetry from BMS, EPMS, DCIM, SCADA, and IT hardware into modeling workflows.
• Lead technical reviews of designs, identify risks, and recommend data-driven changes.
• Adapt reference solutions to site constraints while preserving performance and reliability.
• Support pilots, commissioning, testing, and post‑deployment analysis to improve designs.
• Help shape the technical roadmap for Industrial Compute's infrastructure products.
