Job summary

Burtch Works is seeking a Senior Data Catalog Analyst in New York, a hands-on contributor responsible for metadata management, data cataloging, lineage documentation, and governance workflows using platforms like Atlan and Unity Catalog.

You will collaborate with data product managers, SMEs, and technology teams to improve data discoverability, quality, and compliance across the enterprise, supporting the Data Strategy and enabling data-driven decisions.

Qualifications

• 5–7+ years of professional experience, including 2–3+ years in a data governance function.
• Bachelor's degree in Business, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Strong understanding of data governance frameworks, metadata management, and data cataloging and lineage concepts.
• Proven ability to translate business needs into governance policies, standards, and workflows.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills with experience working across business and technical teams.

Responsibilities

• Curate and maintain glossaries, taxonomies, and metadata for business and technical assets.
• Design and implement governance workflows including stewardship approvals, certifications, and data access protocols.
• Support PII/PHI classification, data quality checks, and lineage validation.
• Collaborate with data product managers, SMEs, and engineers to capture business context, align it with technical architectures, and strengthen metadata documentation.
• Drive adoption of governance tools through roadshows, training sessions, user enablement, and data owner/steward playbooks.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies by contributing to backlog building and sprint events in Jira.
