Position Overview
Job Summary
The Senior Data Catalog Analyst plays a key role in advancing enterprise data governance initiatives. This individual contributor role is responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing metadata management, data catalogs, lineage documentation, and governance workflows using platforms such as Atlan and Unity Catalog. Working closely with data product managers, business SMEs, and technology teams, the analyst enhances data discoverability, quality, and compliance across the enterprise, supporting the organization's Data Strategy and enabling timely, data-driven decisions built on trusted information.
Key Responsibilities
- Curate and maintain glossaries, taxonomies, and metadata for business and technical assets.
- Design and implement governance workflows including stewardship approvals, certifications, and data access protocols.
- Support PII/PHI classification, data quality checks, and lineage validation.
- Collaborate with data product managers, SMEs, and engineers to capture business context, align it with technical architectures, and strengthen metadata documentation.
- Drive adoption of governance tools through roadshows, training sessions, user enablement, and data owner/steward playbooks.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies by contributing to backlog building and sprint events in Jira.
Requirements
- 5–7+ years of professional experience, including 2–3+ years in a data governance function.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of data governance frameworks, metadata management, and data cataloging and lineage concepts.
- Proven ability to translate business needs into governance policies, standards, and workflows.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with experience working across business and technical teams.
- Hands-on experience with Atlan, Unity Catalog, or similar metadata management tools; familiarity with data quality and observability tools such as Anomalo.
- Strong SQL skills with the ability to analyze and validate data lineage.
- Experience applying governance frameworks, glossary management, and stewardship processes.
- Experience working in Agile environments using Jira, Confluence, and SharePoint.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency with data platforms and data management tools such as Databricks, Redshift, dbt, FiveTran, or Streamlit.
- Experience with data modeling, data analysis, and data profiling.
- Working knowledge of SQL and Python for data analysis and automation.
- Exposure to AI-enabled governance accelerators or AI-assisted cataloging tools.
- Experience supporting data modernization or cloud migration initiatives in enterprise settings.
