Job summary

The Wall Street Journal seeks a Senior Data Analyst for our newsroom data team. You will own analyses, dashboards, and measurement frameworks to inform editorial, audience, and product decisions. This is a high-autonomy, hands-on role reporting to the Senior Manager, Newsroom Analytics, based in New York.

You will mentor junior analysts and help set the technical bar for the team while partnering with editorial, product, and strategy groups to drive adoption of insights.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in data analytics, data science, or a related field, preferably in media, publishing, or content.
• Track record of owning recurring reporting end-to-end and delivering analyses that informed decisions.
• Strong SQL skills with experience in large-scale data warehouses like BigQuery or Snowflake and analytics-engineering frameworks like dbt.
• Experience designing and running A/B tests and applying statistical methods to interpret results.
• Proficiency in Python for analysis, data wrangling, and automating workflows, with Git experience.
• Strong communication skills enabling alignment across cross-functional groups.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a trusted analytics partner to newsroom editorial and strategy leaders, driving audience growth, engagement and retention.
• Develop and maintain centralized dashboards and automated reports expanding self-serve access to newsroom data.
• Run deep-drive analyses on opportunities, major events, and shifts in performance.
• Develop novel metrics and analytical frameworks to inform newsroom strategy and drive adoption.
• Own and maintain reporting stack, partner with data engineering and product to ensure data quality and robust datasets.
• Design and run A/B tests with cross-functional teams and translate results into decisions.
• Mentor junior analysts and contribute to a shared library of methods.
