The Wall Street Journal is seeking a Data Analyst to join the Newsroom Analytics team in New York. You'll build reports, dashboards, and analyses the newsroom relies on to guide editorial, audience, and product decisions daily.

You'll spend most of your time writing SQL, pulling data, and maintaining dashboards, with opportunities to use AI tools to speed up workflows and automate routine tasks. Collaboration with senior analysts grows your independence.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years in data analytics, BI, or a related field.
• Proficient SQL skills with experience writing queries against non-trivial datasets.
• Comfort with a modern BI/dashboarding tool (Looker, Tableau, Mode, or similar).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for non-technical partners.
• Care for accuracy and detail in work the newsroom will act on.

Responsibilities

• Write SQL to answer questions from newsroom editorial, audience, and product partners.
• Build and maintain dashboards and recurring reports for self-serve access.
• Support deep-dive analyses on major news events and performance shifts.
• Troubleshoot data quality issues and work with data engineering to resolve them.
• Contribute to A/B tests and experiment analysis with senior analysts.
• Learn the newsroom taxonomies, instrumentation, and documentation patterns.
