Job summary

K.L. Scott & Associates is seeking a Senior Data Analyst to support a federal client in Washington, DC. The role emphasizes data extraction, ETL, and dashboard development with Python, SQL, and Power BI, while mentoring junior analysts and leading small teams.

The ideal candidate has 7+ years of data analytics experience, strong communication skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced public sector environment. In-person work required in DC area.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in data analytics or related roles.
• Bachelor degree in Data Analytics, Data Science, Information Systems, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Finance, or equivalent.
• At least three years of Python libraries experience (pandas, dataframes, matplotlib, numpy).
• At least three years of writing complex DAX and M-language formulas involving financial data.
• At least five years of experience in finance or accounting.
• Experience in statistical modeling and financial forecasting.
• Experience automating workflows.
• Hands-on experience extracting data from multiple source systems and developing datasets for dashboarding, reporting, and analysis.
• Strong SQL querying experience for data extraction, analysis, transformation, and reporting.
• Experience developing dashboards and visualizations in Tableau and Power BI.
• Ability to communicate findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience leading small teams or analytical workstreams.
• Strong written and verbal communication and attention to detail.
• Must be in-person in Washington, D.C. 5 days a week.
• Must have or be able to obtain full-scope background investigation and clearance.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex data analysis efforts to identify trends, risks, and actionable insights for federal client leadership.
• Extract, transform, and integrate data from multiple sources to build reliable datasets for reporting and dashboards.
• Develop, optimize, and maintain SQL queries, views, scripts, and data logic for dashboards and reports.
• Utilize Python scripting for ETL processes and data preparation.
• Design and build curated datasets, data models, and structures to support repeatable reporting.
• Develop dashboards and BI products using Power BI and other tools.
• Integrate Python into Power BI for advanced visualizations.
• Mentor junior data analysts and lead small project teams.
• Support user acceptance testing, dashboard validation, and feedback cycles.
• Create and maintain data dictionaries, business rules, and data lineage notes.
