Cloud and Things is seeking a Senior Data Analyst to support the NYCERS client. You will lead profiling, cleansing, conversion, and validation across mainframe and SQL environments, translating legacy rules into validated target-state data solutions.

The role requires extensive ETL/SQL and COBOL experience, with a focus on data quality and migrations. This exempt, hybrid position in Brooklyn, NY offers a W2 hourly rate of $75 - $86/hour and an emphasis on collaboration with the Data Management

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of source-to-target data mapping in IBM Mainframe and relational databases.
  • Experience creating data dictionaries with terms, values and definitions.
  • Experience migrating VSAM data to relational SQL databases.
  • 3+ years with IBM DataStage ETL.
  • Experience extracting fields from COBOL programs.
  • Experience with BMC Control-M and Git.
  • 3+ years in Pension Administration systems.
  • Strong SQL, including stored procedures, and SSRS knowledge.
  • Ability to work across IBM Mainframe, Windows Server and SQL Server.
  • COBOL, CICS and DB2 knowledge.
  • Understanding data structures for ETL mappings.

Responsibilities

  • Lead data profiling, cleansing, conversion, migration and validation for NYCERS.
  • Create source-to-target mappings from legacy rules and source data.
  • Translate business rules into ETL/SQL specifications with complex validations.
  • Optimize ETL and SQL processes for data quality and migration tasks.
  • Support data integrity initiatives with SMEs and IT partners.
  • Help detect and resolve invalid data values and defects.

Overview

We are seeking a Senior Data Analyst who will support our NYCERS client as part of the Data Management team. This role will lead data profiling, cleansing, conversion, migration, and validation activities for the Legacy Replacement initiative while supporting ongoing data quality and process improvement efforts. The analyst will work across mainframe and relational database environments to translate legacy business rules and source data into validated target-state data solutions.

Duties
  • Participate in the identification, inventory, and classification of critical NYCERS data and work with data subject matter experts to document data quality rules and definitions.
  • Extract business rules from existing legacy code and create source-to-target mappings for data conversion and migration activities.
  • Transform business rules and data quality rules into ETL and/or SQL technical specifications and develop complex SQL data validations based on STTMs and target data models.
  • Optimize and performance-tune existing ETL and SQL processes supporting data profiling, cleansing, conversion, migration, and validation efforts.
  • Provide technical and analytical support for data integrity and quality initiatives, including identifying and remediating data quality gaps with SMEs, technical leads, and IT partners.
  • Support processes that proactively detect, correct, and prevent invalid data values, including defect handling and problem resolution.
Mandatory Qualifications
  • 5+ years of source-to-target data mapping experience in mixed IBM Mainframe and relational database environments.
  • Experience creating data dictionary documentation that includes business terms, valid values, and definitions.
  • Experience converting or migrating VSAM data to relational or dimensional SQL distributed databases.
  • 3+ years of recent experience developing applications using IBM DataStage ETL.
  • Experience extracting field references and calculated data from COBOL programs.
  • Experience with BMC Control-M workload automation software.
  • Experience with Git version control software.
  • 3+ years of recent experience with Pension Administration systems.
  • Strong SQL knowledge, including complex queries and stored procedures.
  • Proficiency in SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) report development.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to analyze requirements and propose solutions that adhere to team methodology.
  • Ability to work across IBM Mainframe, Windows Server, and SQL Server environments.
  • Proficiency with mainframe applications using COBOL, CICS, and DB2.
  • Understanding of data structures and their relationship to ETL applications.
  • Ability to develop complex SQL data validations based on source-to-target mappings (STTMs) and target data models.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, information-gathering, and troubleshooting skills.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience extracting business rules from existing legacy code.
  • Experience with data quality and data profiling tools.
  • Experience with data warehouses and data marts.
  • Prior experience working with a New York State or New York City pension system.
