Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in biology or related field.
• Five or more years of experience in a cytogenetics laboratory.
• Certified as a Cytogenetic Technologist by ASCP.
• Licensure or certification maintenance requirements as specified by the relevant agency.
• Continuing education hours annually as required by licensure/certification.

Responsibilities

• Records pertinent laboratory data on forms/charts to ensure accurate documentation of findings.
• Participates in regular lab meetings and stays informed about changes and activities in the lab area.
• Analyzes banded metaphase spreads and interphase nuclei for genetic abnormalities with high accuracy.
• Keeps a daily work log and meets productivity standards for karyotyping and FISH analysis.
• Uses imaging equipment to capture and enhance images for analysis.
• Participates in proficiency testing and protocol revisions to improve methods.
• Acts as a technical resource for less experienced personnel.
• Adheres to universal precautions and quality control policies.
• Supervises and contributes to safety, workflow, and leadership in assigned areas.
