Job summary

Atrium Health is seeking a Surgical Technologist to support the operating room and assist the RN circulator in patient preparation and instrument handling. The role involves preparing supplies, equipment, and specimens, as well as assisting with room turnover.

Ideal candidates have 5 years of OR experience, specialized training in neurosurgery/spine/cardiothoracic/vascular/robotics, and current BLS and NBSTSA/NCCT certification. Administrative and policy development duties may be involved.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of surgical technology required or successful completion of military training program for Surgical Technology or Operating Room Specialist.
• Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider required.
• Current certification required through NBSTSA or NCCT.
• 5 years of total operating room experience in surgical technologist role required; 2 years of specialized training in neurosurgery, spine, cardiothoracic, vascular, complex ortho, and robotics.

Responsibilities

• Possesses a thorough knowledge of aseptic technique and its application.
• Assists in obtaining and organizing supplies and instruments prior, during and after surgical procedure.
• Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization.
• Assists RN circulator in preparation of patient, assembly of supplies and equipment, and proper disposition of specimens; assists with room turnover.
• Assigned to heightened specialized procedures: neurosurgery and spine, cardiothoracic, vascular, complex orthopedics, and robotics.
• Monitors sterilization activities for completion and ensures proper usage and documentation of charges.
• Attends in-services/staff meetings and participates in Performance Improvement Process.
• Participates in educational opportunities to increase competency and meet personal needs and goals.
• Assists in development of policies, procedures, and standards.
• Serves as a preceptor and clinical resource to others.
• Assumes responsibility for unit clinical projects and oversees service lines as needed.
