Job summary

Texas Health and Human Services Commission in Abilene is seeking a Custodian III to perform complex custodial work in state-supported living centers. You will coordinate cleaning, restocking supplies, and provide backup to other custodians while ensuring safety and infection control standards.

The role requires driving eligibility and flexibility for shifts, with a regular schedule, some overtime, and weekend work as needed. A valid Texas driver license is required within 90 days of hire.

Qualifications

• At least six (6) months paid experience in custodial/housekeeping work is required; one (1) year preferred.
• Experience working with people who have intellectual and developmental disabilities or mental health disorders is preferred.
• Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent is preferred.
• Must possess a valid Texas driver license or obtain it within 90 days after hire.

Responsibilities

• Attends work regularly and may be required to work a specific shift, including rotating schedules and overtime as needed.
• Maintains cleaning supplies, chemicals, and equipment, and records usage and maintenance.
• Coordinates cleaning, dusting, disinfection of restrooms and areas, and ensures waste is disposed of regularly.
• Ensures resident homes meet cleanliness and safety standards and conducts follow-up inspections.
• Assists Custodian Manager by training and guiding staff; may supervise Custodian I/II.
• May participate in disaster response, COOP activation, or alternate shift patterns.
