Job summary

Fremont Bank is seeking a Senior Commercial Underwriter to support complex CRE lending decisions by performing high‑quality credit analysis, underwriting owner- and non‑owner-occupied deals, and evaluating property-level risks. You will analyze business and personal financial statements, rent rolls, appraisals, and third‑party reports to determine sound risk and profitability within policy.

You will mentor junior staff, collaborate with sales to structure loan terms that meet borrower needs

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
• Minimum five years of experience in commercial real estate underwriting.
• Knowledge of the Bay Area real estate market.
• Strong proficiency in spreading financials in related software.
• Working knowledge of bank regulations, risk rating systems, and loan documentation.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Ability to adapt to preferred communication style of internal stakeholders and external borrowers.
• Strong attention to detail, while still having the ability to scale analysis based on the strengths and weaknesses of each credit.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite and analyze a broad range of CRE loans across asset types.
• Assess borrower creditworthiness from financial statements, tax returns, rent rolls, operating statements, and appraisals.
• Review third-party reports and summarize conclusions in the Narrative.
• Prepare and evaluate cash flows and credit memos for loan committees.
• Collaborate with sales partners to structure loan terms that meet borrower needs while mitigating bank risk.
• Mentor junior staff and support audits and portfolio reviews.
• Maintain knowledge of regulatory guidance and bank policies.
