Job summary

Socket.dev seeks a seasoned Liability Coverage Counsel to serve as a key legal and technical advisor within the Claims division. You will guide coverage analyses, interpret policy language, and coordinate with claims, underwriting, and product teams to resolve high-exposure and litigated claims.

Role requires JD, bar admission, and 7–10 years of experience in insurance coverage and complex liability matters.

Qualifications

• JD required from an accredited law school.
• Active bar license in at least one U.S. state.
• 7–10 years of relevant legal experience involving insurance coverage and liability.
• Experience with Commercial General Liability, Excess/Umbrella, Auto, and Professional Liability.
• Prior litigation experience with outside counsel and complex insurance coverage matters.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal guidance on complex coverage matters arising from commercial liability claims.
• Review and interpret policies, endorsements, and underwriting materials to assess coverage.
• Prepare reservation of rights letters and coverage position letters.
• Advise on coverage strategy, claim handling, and litigation exposure.
• Oversee declaratory judgment actions and other coverage disputes.
• Manage outside counsel and oversee litigation strategy and budgets.
• Collaborate with Claims, Underwriting, and Product teams on policy language and emerging issues.
• Develop training for claims professionals on coverage analysis and risk.
