Job summary

AbbVie is seeking a Senior Counsel, Global Commercial Legal to lead the legal strategy for Oncology medicines. You will partner with cross-functional teams to navigate regulatory complexity and shape decisions that balance patient outcomes with business goals.

Based in AbbVie\'s U.S. commercial headquarters with a hybrid onsite schedule, this role influences promotions, launches, and contracting while guiding outside counsel and ensuring compliance across multiple jurisdictions.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
• Currently admitted to the bar in at least one U.S. state and meet licensing requirements of that state.
• Minimum of 5+ years of relevant experience—in-house at a pharma company, in a life sciences/healthcare law practice at a national firm, or with a government agency.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a key legal advisor to cross-functional teams within AbbVie's Oncology business unit, advising on commercial, regulatory, and operational issues.
• Provide guidance on FDA regulations, False Claims Act, Anti-Kickback Statute, OIG guidance, PhRMA Code, Sunshine Act, FCPA and competition law.
• Support development and implementation of legal policies, compliance programs, and training.
• Collaborate with internal and external partners to manage risk, resolve disputes, and influence outcomes.
• Advise on government policy initiatives (e.g., IRA, 340b, PBM reform).
• Translate legal/regulatory shifts into actionable guidance for business decisions.
• Direct work of outside counsel, define objectives and manage projects.
• Position reports to a Sr. Associate General Counsel, Oncology Lead.
