Job summary

Energy Northwest seeks a Counsel to provide legal advice across the organization, with emphasis on nuclear licensing, regulatory compliance and contract negotiations. This onsite role collaborates with staff and management to ensure PRA, environmental, ethics, and employment compliance.

The ideal candidate has a JD, 5–7+ years of experience, and the ability to obtain WSBA license by motion within one year; prior experience in public utilities or energy transactions is preferred.

Qualifications

• JD from an accredited law school and bar admission in WA or ability to obtain by motion within one year.
• Experience in employment, contracts, litigation, environmental, and energy transactions.
• Must meet nuclear requirements for unescorted plant access.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal support on nuclear licensing and regulatory compliance matters, incl. NRC investigations/enforcement.
• Negotiate, draft and review a wide variety of contracts, leases, waivers and other agreements.
• Provide legal support in regulatory areas such as environmental, ethics, industrial safety and employment.
• Establish and maintain PRA guidance; oversee PRA requests and response deadlines.
• Oversee the Paralegal's work and communications with requesters and records offices.
• Provide legal review and support of PRA responses.
• Protect EN's interests by handling contract claims and directing litigation with outside counsel.
• Advise staff and governing boards on policy and operational matters.
• Prepare budgets for transactional matters and litigation; monitor expenses.
• Participate in strategic energy transactions; serve on Emergency Response team when designated.
• Support the biennial refueling outage.
