Job summary

The School District of Philadelphia seeks a Senior General Counsel (Labor and Employment, Litigation) to provide strategic legal advice to the Board of Education, District leadership, and employees. The role focuses on labor and employment counseling and complex litigation, supervising and collaborating with the Office of General Counsel and outside counsel.

The successful candidate will oversee risk mitigation, training, and development of attorneys and staff, and will lead labor negotiations

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school.
• Ten years of full-time, professional legal experience.

Responsibilities

• Represent the District on education, labor and employment, and litigation matters.
• Defend lawsuits and develop litigation strategy.
• Oversee outside counsel and manage complex investigations.
• Negotiate matters with opposing counsel.
• Advise on collective bargaining agreements and HR issues.
• Lead training and professional development for OGC staff.
• Participate in labor negotiations and strategic planning.
