Job summary

The School District of Philadelphia seeks a Senior General Counsel specializing in labor and employment and litigation. You will provide strategic legal counsel to the Board of Education, District leadership, and staff, manage complex litigation, supervise outside counsel, and guide bargaining and HR matters with an emphasis on risk mitigation and policy leadership.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
• Ten years of full-time, paid, professional legal experience.
• Bar admission to practicing law in Pennsylvania or eligibility and active membership in good standing.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal advice to the Board of Education, District leadership, and employees on education, labor and employment, and litigation issues.
• Defend lawsuits and manage strategy with outside counsel; oversee investigations and settlements.
• Lead negotiations on collective bargaining agreements and HR matters; develop risk mitigation and litigation strategies.
• Mentor and supervise Associate and Assistant General Counsel staff; drive district-wide training.
