Job summary

The School District of Philadelphia seeks a Senior General Counsel specializing in labor and employment, litigation, and education law. You will provide strategic leadership within the Office of General Counsel, advising the Board of Education, district leadership, and staff on complex matters, while directing outside counsel and building risk-mitigated solutions.

Strong experience in labor negotiations and regulatory matters is essential.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
• Ten years of full-time, paid legal experience in a law firm, public sector law department, or corporate law department.
• Admission to the Bar of Pennsylvania (or eligible) with good standing; admission to federal court preferred.

Responsibilities

• Represent and counsel the Board of Education, District leadership, and employees on a wide range of education, labor and employment, and litigation issues.
• Develop risk mitigation and litigation strategies; supervise outside counsel and manage complex matters.
• Lead and mentor OGC staff; oversee investigations and settlements; participate in labor negotiations and bargaining matters.
• Provide legal opinions, compliance assessments, and risk analysis to district principals, administrators, and boards.
