Mercedes-Benz Research & Development North America, Inc. is seeking a senior‑level Export Compliance Counsel to guide the organization on U.S. export controls related to software, encryption, and technology.

The role emphasizes practical guidance for engineering and executives, and partners with engineering teams and business stakeholders to support classification, licensing, record‑keeping, and training. This on‑site position is based in Atlanta, GA, with occasional travel.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor from an accredited U.S. law school and admission to practice law in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar.
• 7+ years of experience in trade compliance focusing on U.S. export controls with project/program management experience.
• Ability to classify products, technology and software under the CCL and to submit BIS license submissions.

Responsibilities

• Advise on export control regulations, especially EAR, BIS and ITAR where applicable.
• Develop, manage and operate the company’s export control program; coordinate with Engineering, Procurement, HR and IT.
• Classify products and technology, perform license submissions and ensure end-use/end-user diligence and training.
• Communicate complex legal concepts into practical, business-friendly guidance for engineering and executive leadership.
• Lead and mentor teams; manage high‑volume workflows in a fast-paced environment.
