Job summary

General Motors seeks an Associate Director – Global Customs & Trade Counsel to serve as GM’s senior legal and compliance advisor on global customs and North American export‑control matters. You will establish enterprise legal strategy, governance, and policy, and lead major regulatory contingencies across regions and business units.

You will oversee complex contract reviews, coordinate with finance, purchasing, engineering and supply chain, and manage outside counsel and specialists.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in legal, customs, international trade or export-control.
• Experience advising multinational companies.
• Leadership experience (5+ years) developing high-performing teams.

Responsibilities

• Advise executives on material customs, trade, and regulatory risks.
• Lead audits, investigations, disclosures, protests, appeals and enforcement matters.
• Develop and implement enterprise policies, compliance programs, and governance frameworks.
• Represent GM with regulators, industry groups, and external stakeholders.
• Provide practical legal guidance on contracts, global deployments, and evolving supply chains.
