Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (SCDMV) seeks a business-minded, execution-driven attorney to help formulate agency legal strategies. This role supports the Office of General Counsel at SCDMV Headquarters in Blythewood, SC.

The attorney will work with divisions to identify legal issues, advise on contracts and procurement, and represent the department in litigation and appeals as assigned.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and licensed to practice law.
• Minimum of five years’ experience as a practicing attorney.
• Must meet Rule 403 requirements and SC Appellate Court Rules.

Responsibilities

• Identifies legal problems with divisions and guides procedures, especially for contracts and procurement.
• Provides legal counsel on contracts, procurement, and data security; supports financial responsibility offices.
• Represents the department in litigation before state trial and appellate courts.
• Advises on policy and procedures arising from legislation, regulations and court decisions; assists with training materials.
