Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (SCDMV) seeks an attorney III with a business mindset to help formulate agency legal strategies. This role is based in the Office of General Counsel at SCDMV Headquarters in Blythewood, SC. You will provide legal counsel on contracts, procurement, data security, and regulatory matters, represent the department in litigation, and advise on policy and training.

A J.D. and at least five years practicing law are required.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and experience as a practicing attorney.
• A minimum of five years' experience as a practicing attorney.
• Must have Rule 403 Requirements, S.C. Appellate Court Rules.

Responsibilities

• Works closely with various divisions and offices to identify legal problems and guides establishment of operating procedures, especially in regard to contracts and procurement.
• Provides legal counsel on contracts, procurement, and data security issues.
• Represents the department in litigation, including actions in the Office of Motor Vehicle Hearings, the Administrative Law Court, and other state trial and appellate courts.
