Job summary

Commonwealth of Massachusetts, through DCAMM, seeks a Counsel III to handle construction, claims, and litigation matters. The role focuses on providing practical legal guidance on contracts, procurement, project delivery, and disputes across public capital projects.

The attorney will advise project teams, coordinate with outside counsel, and participate in settlements, risk management, and administrative proceedings, contributing to the Commonwealth’s public infrastructure initiatives.

Qualifications

• JD degree and MA Bar admission.
• At least six years of full-time (or equivalent part-time) legal experience.
• Supervisory experience may be required depending on assignment.

Responsibilities

• Advise DCAMM leadership on legal issues arising from public construction and capital projects.
• Provide guidance on construction contracts, procurement, change orders, delays, defaults, and disputes.
• Assist with litigation, arbitration, mediation, administrative proceedings, and other dispute-resolution matters.
• Evaluate claims and disputes involving contractors, designers, consultants, vendors, and agencies.
• Draft, review, and negotiate settlement agreements, amendments, and other legal documents.
• Identify and mitigate legal risks early to prevent formal disputes.
