Job summary

Orchard is seeking an Associate General Counsel to join our growing Legal & Regulatory team. This hybrid role, based out of NYC with flexibility for Denver/Austin, focuses on commercial and regulatory matters as we expand our real estate offerings.

You will partner with product, engineering, mortgage, and title teams, manage outside counsel, and engage state regulators to balance growth with compliance. A high‑caliber, autonomous lawyer is essential.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in the commercial and/or regulatory space.
• Experience with commercial contracts and negotiations with large companies.
• Knowledge of regulatory frameworks governing residential real estate, mortgage lending, title insurance, and settlement services (RESPA, TILA, FHA, ECOA, GLBA, and state licensing).
• Ability to navigate evolving regulations in a business context.
• Entrepreneurial mindset with ability to work autonomously.
• Strong collaboration and relationship-building across teams.
• Excellent attention to detail and planning skills.
• State bar admission in good standing.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a legal lead across commercial and regulatory issues guiding product offerings and compliance.
• Lead commercial partnerships from inception to execution.
• Support mortgage company product offerings and state expansion.
• Collaborate with title companies to streamline services while complying with state laws.
• Partner with Product & Engineering to balance innovation with risk.
• Engage with state regulators and manage regulatory inquiries.
• Manage outside law firms and control costs.
• Contribute to data privacy and information security policies.
