Job summary

Markel is seeking a senior casualty claims expert to lead the most complex, high-exposure claims with significant autonomy. You will guide coverage analysis, manage outside counsel, and provide strategic direction to underwriting and claims leadership.

The role requires a law degree (preferred) and a claims adjuster license, with at least ten years of experience in claims handling. Strong leadership and mentoring skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 10+ years of claims handling and management experience.
• Legal knowledge in casualty claims and insurance law.
• Strong written and verbal communication required.

Responsibilities

• Manage the most complex/high exposure Casualty Claims with minimal oversight.
• Analyze coverage positions and manage related litigation.
• Coordinate outside counsel to control strategy and expense.
• Prepare reports for underwriting and senior management.
• Mentor junior examiners and support Casualty Claims leadership.
