Job summary

Ampirical is seeking a Cost Engineer to serve as the financial cornerstone of our project controls team on EPC projects. You’ll own cost analysis, budget tracking, and forecasting, collaborating with project managers to ensure cost transparency and efficiency.

Ideal candidates have a bachelor’s degree in Finance or Construction Management, 5+ years in cost controls, and advanced Excel skills with familiarity in P6 schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development, tracking, and reporting of detailed project cost plans, budgets, and forecasts.
  • Collaborate with schedulers and project managers to ensure alignment between schedules, resources, and budgets.
  • Review and analyze project cost performance to identify variances and provide actionable insights.
  • Monitor earned value metrics and prepare comprehensive cost reports for internal and client stakeholders.
  • Support procurement and contract cost control, including change order tracking and invoice reconciliation.
  • Ensure financial compliance with corporate policies and support audits or reviews as needed.
  • Assist with proposal cost modeling and baseline budget creation.
  • Contribute to process improvements that enhance cost tracking and project visibility.
  • Familiarity with P6 is a plus, but not a primary requirement.

Operations Department Overview

Strong project management practices and proactive risk assessment allow us to enhance project controls, minimize scope creep, and prevent costly delays. Hourly Range: $40/hour – $50/hour (dependent on experience, education, and qualifications)

Bonus: Semi‑annual, performance‑based (10% to 20% of salary)

What You’ll Do

What You Bring
  • Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Construction Management, or related field with experience in
  • Experience: 5+ years of Cost controls on EPC projects
  • Technical Skills: Expertise in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with reading project schedules in P6
  • Industry Knowledge: Utility experience is strongly preferred
  • Communication and Organization: Excellent analytical, communication, and problem‑solving skills with an ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Additional: Strong understanding of the overall Project Management Organization function
