Position Overview

Ampere is seeking a Project Controls Specialist (Cost and/or Scheduling) with 5+ years of relevant experience to support the delivery of highly complex Engineer, Procure, and Construct (EPC) projects. We are hiring at multiple levels, including Project Controls Specialist, Senior Project Controls Specialist, and Lead Project Controls Specialist, pay and title is dependent on the candidate's qualifications and experience.

This role functions as the primary cost authority on assigned projects, working in direct support of Project Managers to ensure financial discipline, forecast accuracy, and alignment with approved budgets and governance requirements throughout the EPC lifecycle.

This position serves as a delivery-focused project controls lead, providing accurate cost forecasting, financial governance, and decision-ready reporting across highly regulated EPC transmission portfolios, from early procurement through construction execution and closeout.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the lead cost and project controls resource for assigned EPC transmission and utility projects, supporting Project Managers across procurement, construction, and closeout phases.
  • Develop, maintain, and analyze project budgets, cost plans, forecasts, accruals, commitments, and actuals.
  • Own Estimate to Complete (ETC) and Estimate at Completion (EAC) processes, ensuring forecasts reflect current procurement and construction realities.
  • Identify, analyze, and communicate cost variances, trends, and emerging financial risks, recommending corrective actions.
Project Analysis, Contractual Alignment & Governance
  • Analyze EPC project scopes, procurement strategies, commercial terms, and construction delivery requirements to ensure financial execution aligns with approved budgets, funding authorizations, and established governance frameworks.
  • Monitor project performance against contractual obligations, internal controls, and regulatory requirements typical of large utility EPC capital programs.
  • Partner with Project Managers, Supply Chain, and Finance to validate that cost forecasts, commitments, change impacts, and accruals remain consistent with EPC contract terms and financial controls.
  • Identify, document, and elevate budgetary, contractual, or compliance risks, supporting timely mitigation and informed decision-making.
  • Support governance reviews, audit readiness, and regulatory reporting through accurate, transparent, and well-documented financial data.
Reporting, Systems & Data Management
  • Produce and maintain clear, decision-ready financial and cost control reports supporting project and program leadership.
  • Ensure accurate cost data flow across systems such as SAP, Primavera P6, Unifier, ProjectWise, Procore, and other EPC project controls platforms.
  • Collaborate with scheduling and construction teams to support integrated cost and schedule visibility.
  • Maintain strong documentation practices to support EPC project sanctioning, governance reviews, and project closeout.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (electrical or civil a plus), construction or project management, business or finance, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of supporting complex project scheduling, including baseline development and schedule updates and reporting.
  • Experience supporting EPC projects within electric transmission, utilities, or energy infrastructure.
  • Interpret contract T&Cs and confidently raise related cost or scope risks to Project Managers.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (advanced formulas, pivot tables; macros a plus).
  • Experience with SAP, Primavera P6, Unifier, Procore, Tableau, Ariba, or similar systems.
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex financial and EPC cost information to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Valid driver’s license with the ability to support site and office visits.
For Schedulers:
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, Electrical, Architecture, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience supporting complex project scheduling, including baseline development and schedule updates.
  • Experience supporting EPC projects, preferably within electric transmission, utilities, or energy infrastructure.
  • Strong working knowledge of Oracle Primavera P6 for schedule development, analysis, and reporting.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
