Job summary

Northwood Space is seeking its first Cost Accountant to build and own the cost accounting function as we scale our space infrastructure products from development into production.

You will establish processes, methodologies, and controls giving us accurate visibility into inventory, COGS, and the true cost of building hardware, while handling day-to-day cost accounting activities to support the business today.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance with 4+ years cost/manufacturing accounting.
• Strong understanding of standard costing, inventory valuation, WIP, COGS in ERP.
• Ability to own close activities, journal entries, reconciliations independently.
• Analytical, autonomous with strong Excel skills.

Responsibilities

• Build and own the company’s cost accounting function, establishing scalable processes and reporting for inventory, standard costs, WIP, COGS, and variances as production scales.
• Own month-end and quarter-end close activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and variance analysis.
• Develop and maintain standard costing methodologies across purchased and manufactured hardware; analyze variances to improve cost accuracy.
• Own inventory accounting/valuation across raw materials, WIP, and finished goods; reconcile with ERP and resolve discrepancies.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Engineering, and Programs to translate BOMs, production costs, and changes into actionable costs and insights.
• Serve as Finance owner for cost accounting systems, define ERP requirements, automate processes, and build reporting infrastructure.
