Job summary

Northwood Space is seeking its first Cost Accountant to build and own the cost accounting function as we scale production of our space hardware. You will establish processes for inventory, standard costs, WIP, and COGS while supporting month-end close and reporting.

Working with Finance, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and Engineering, you will translate BOMs and production costs into actionable insights, deploy ERP improvements, and ensure strong internal controls as the company grows.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 4+ years of cost accounting, inventory accounting, or manufacturing accounting experience.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing cost accounting concepts (standard costing, WIP, COGS, variance analysis).
• Proven ability to own close activities, journals, reconciliations, and complex analyses autonomously.

Responsibilities

• Build and own the cost accounting function, establishing scalable processes and reporting for inventory, standard costs, WIP, COGS, and variances.
• Own month-end and quarter-end close activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and variance analysis.
• Develop and maintain standard costing methodologies for purchased and manufactured hardware; analyze variances to improve cost accuracy.
• Own inventory accounting and valuation across raw materials, WIP, and finished goods; reconcile with ERP and production activity.
• Translate BOMs, production costs, and engineering changes into accurate product costs and financial insights.
• Own ERP-related cost accounting systems and drive continuous improvement and automation of reporting.
