Job summary

Quanex is seeking a Senior Cost Accountant to join our team at the St. Cloud and/or Mounds View, MN locations. This on-site role will travel between sites to maintain cost reporting across 11 manufacturing plants.

You will partner with plant controllers and operations leadership to explain absorption, variances, and standard costs, while driving improvements in inventory accuracy and financial reporting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 5+ years of progressive experience in cost accounting within a manufacturing environment.
• Multi-site manufacturing experience preferred.
• Proficiency in ERP systems (E21 and Netsuite preferred) and financial reporting tools.
• Ability to translate complex financial data into clear, actionable insights.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and process improvement skills.

Responsibilities

• Own and oversee cost accounting processes across 11 manufacturing plants, ensuring consistency and accuracy.
• Partner with plant controllers and operations leaders to explain absorption, cost behavior, and variances to standard.
• Analyze and interpret manufacturing variances, identify root causes, and drive corrective actions.
• Lead cost-related month-end close activities, including inventory valuation and reconciliations.
• Analyze monthly sales, COGM, and inventory results to ensure integrity of financial reporting.
• Lead standard cost updates within the ERP system and communicate impacts to leadership.
• Coordinate quarterly updates to labor and overhead rates across facilities.
