Job summary

Quanex is seeking a Senior Cost Accountant to join our team at St. Cloud and/or Mounds View, MN. This on-site role may require traveling between both locations to support manufacturing operations.

You will own cost accounting across 11 plants, partner with plant controllers and operations leadership, and provide clear insight into absorption, variances to standard, and inventory valuation to drive cost visibility and financial reporting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
• 5+ years of progressive cost accounting experience in manufacturing.
• Multi-site manufacturing experience preferred.
• Strong understanding of standard costing, absorption accounting, and manufacturing variance analysis.
• Experience partnering with plant controllers and operations leadership.
• Proficiency with ERP systems (E21 and NetSuite) and financial reporting tools.

Responsibilities

• Own cost accounting processes across 11 manufacturing plants, ensuring consistency and GAAP alignment.
• Explain absorption, cost behavior, and variances to standard to plant leadership.
• Analyze manufacturing variances, identify root causes, and drive corrective actions.
• Lead cost-related month-end close activities including inventory valuation and reconciliations.
• Develop cost models for budgeting and forecasting across materials, labor, and overhead.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives to reduce cost and improve efficiency.
• Ensure proper cost center and profit center structures within the ERP system.
