Job summary

Verdesian Life Sciences seeks a Senior Cost Accountant to partner with manufacturing and operations, owning standard costing, inventory analysis, and month-end close. You will lead cost accounting activities, analyze variances, and provide actionable financial insights to drive plant decisions and profitability.

You’ll collaborate with Finance Operations and Operations leadership, strengthen internal controls, and improve forecasting and reporting speed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting, including 3+ years in cost or manufacturing accounting.
• Proven experience managing month-end close, reconciliations, variance analysis, and financial reporting.
• Experience partnering with plant/operations leaders and presenting to non-finance audiences.
• Strong GAAP knowledge, cost accounting principles, inventory accounting, and close processes.
• Advanced Excel; proficient with Word, PowerPoint, Outlook.
• Experience with Oracle or similar ERP; manufacturing/cost modules preferred.
• Ability to analyze complex data, identify root causes, and communicate business implications.
• Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal, and presentation skills; cross-functional influence.
• High accuracy, detail-oriented, and deadline-driven; independent prioritization.

Responsibilities

• Own day-to-day cost accounting activities supporting manufacturing and operations.
• Lead development and maintenance of standard costs for products, materials, labor, and overhead.
• Analyze variances (price, usage, labor, overhead) and translate findings into actions.
• Lead month-end close activities including entries, accruals, reconciliations, and GL analysis.
• Ensure GAAP-compliant inventory and COGS transactions are accurate and properly classified.
• Coordinate physical counts and investigate variances.
• Partner with Operations to analyze KPIs, COGS, margins, capacity, and ROI.
• Prepare and present plant/operational financial results with trends and risks.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and outlook for plant expenses and costs.
• Maintain and improve cost accounting models and reporting tools.
• Identify and implement process improvements to strengthen controls and data quality.
• Serve as finance liaison for fixed assets, capex tracking, and reporting.
• Provide schedules and explanations for audits; ensure policy compliance.
• Guide accounting partners on cost accounting matters; lead cross-functional projects.
