Qualifications

• Six or more months of experience as a Correctional Officer or Probation and Parole Assistant with the Missouri Department of Corrections.
• One or more years of military service, or experience in custody of adult criminal offenders in a city, county, state, or federal facility.
• A physical examination may be required to determine if the applicant meets the physical standards.

Responsibilities

• Supervises Correctional Officers; develops expectations/monitors performance and work habits.
• Assists the Corrections Training Officer in orientation and in-service training programs.
• Observes personnel to ensure compliance with rules, regulations, and procedures.
• Conducts on-the-job training for Correctional Officers.
• Serves as officer-in-charge of special security posts where independent judgment is required.
• Patrols living quarters, grounds, and buildings to observe offender behaviors and security effectiveness.
• Prepares and submits reports on offender violations, unusual behaviors, or security issues.
• Discusses adjustment problems with offenders; promotes rehabilitation and discouraging undesirable behaviors.
• Inspects buildings and equipment for security, safety, and sanitary conditions.
• Supervises movement of offenders; conducts counts; searches for contraband.
• Arbitrates disputes and settles grievances among offenders; enforces disciplinary measures as needed.
