Job summary

DC Department of Human Resources seeks a Supervisory Correctional Officer Major for the Department of Corrections in Washington, DC. This role oversees the security program and line management of custody and care areas, coordinating with support services to ensure inmate safety and facility operations.

The incumbent will supervise correctional staff on rotating shifts, plan schedules, and lead emergency procedures when required.

Qualifications

• Specialized experience required: knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties.
• Must be at the Captain level to qualify.
• High School Diploma or GED Certification required.

Responsibilities

• Manage DOC correctional force and security program on assigned shifts.
• Ensure 24/7 coverage across all duty posts and rotate assignments.
• Plan leave, training, and shift rotations per security requirements.
• Direct correctional force to maintain safety, decorum, and inmate discipline.
• May lead emergency or escape procedures until supervisors arrive.
• Participate in Safety/Security Committee and other boards as directed.
• Coordinate with other units to support daily program execution.
• Investigate grievances that affect performance of duties.
• Inspect duty posts and housing units for compliance with regulations.
