Job summary

State of Colorado's Department of Corrections is hiring a Nurse III to supervise professional nursing care for incarcerated offenders in a clinic, infirmary, or specialized unit. The role may require shift work, weekends, and on-call duties, with responsibilities including patient assessment, education, and maintaining inmate medical records.

Qualified candidates hold an active RN license (CO or eNLC) and have 3 years of related experience; substitutions allowed per education level.

Qualifications

• Current, valid licensure as a Registered Nurse from the Colorado Board of Nursing or any state participating in the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
• Three (3) years of professional experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position.
• Substitutions: Bachelor's degree substitutes for 1 year; Master's/Doctorate substitutes for 2 years.

Responsibilities

• Documents patient records accurately and timely.
• Delivers patient education and self-care guidance.
• Provides nursing care in clinic, infirmary, or unit setting.
• Performs routine and emergency assessments of inmates.
• Ensures safety and security of clinical environment.
• Manages payroll, scheduling, and shift responsibilities.
• Coordinates staff orientation and coverage; assists in hiring and promotions.
