Job summary

The State of North Carolina - Adult Correction is seeking a Correctional Lieutenant III (S) to lead and supervise staff at Eastern Correctional Institution in Maury. The role involves shift leadership, staff oversight, and facility safety duties, reporting to the Correctional Captain III.

Responsibilities include supervising staff, maintaining time records, conducting investigations, ensuring equipment and safety compliance, and acting as OIC when needed.

Qualifications

• Supervisory skills in a prison facility are preferred.
• Experience with report writing is preferred.
• Knowledge of Prisons’ Policy and Procedures or Facility Operations is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Providing supervision for subordinate staff, conducting shift line-up, making shift assignments and inspecting all personnel to determine if they are physically and mentally capable of assuming an assigned post.
• Completing, reviewing and maintaining employee time reports, duty rosters, leave schedules, performance evaluations and administrative forms.
• Conducting investigations as needed.
• Accounting for persons & funds and ensuring that all assigned equipment is operational.
• Providing daily inspection of offenders living areas, medical, kitchen areas and the facility as a whole to identify possible safety hazards and to ensure the operation is running smoothly.
• Identifying training needs and coordinating delivery of training to subordinate staff.
• Conducting searches of staff, visitors and offenders for contraband and responding to emergency situations as needed.
• Serving as Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the facility when rotation is working in the absence of the Correctional Captain.
