Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required with at least three years’ experience as a Correctional Lieutenant, or two years as Correctional Lieutenant III, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be eligible for certification by the NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.

Responsibilities

  • Disseminate and interpret prison rules, regulations, and orders.
  • Supervise Correctional Lieutenant IIIs and act as Officer-In-Charge as needed.
  • Conduct frequent inspections of housing units, buildings, grounds, and posts to ensure discipline and operations.
  • Implement disciplinary actions and work to prevent or resolve incidents like assaults, riots, or escapes.
  • Investigate offender complaints and prepare reports for higher-level officials.
  • Prepare offender reports detailing behavior and work records for classification decisions.
