Job description

KHS&S, one of the largest specialty wall and ceiling contractors in the U.S., is seeking an experienced Senior Corporate Controller to lead our accounting and project finance functions. This is a mission-critical role as we strengthen our financial infrastructure, modernize reporting systems, and support operational execution across multiple construction divisions.

We are a national specialty contractor with a deep backlog of high-profile commercial projects. The ideal candidate will bring deep construction industry experience , be hands-on with WIP and forecasting, and elevate our monthly close and project-level financial reporting processes.

The primary duties and responsibilities consist of, but are not limited to:

  • Oversee and manage the monthly close , including job-level cost analysis, accruals, and overhead allocations
  • Lead the preparation and review of Work-in-Process (WIP) schedules , ensuring accurate earned revenue recognition
  • Collaborate closely with project managers and divisional teams to ensure billing accuracy , cost tracking, and reporting alignment
  • Develop and refine the 13-week cash forecast and other forward-looking tools
  • Ensure timely preparation of audit support and coordinate with external auditors on financials and PBCs
  • Implement process improvements and drive adoption of better tools for reporting, visibility, and controls
  • Mentor and train accounting staff; ensure technical accuracy and process accountability
  • Work closely with the executive team to support strategic decisions and scenario analysis

Qualified candidates will have:

  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in construction or job-costing environments
  • College degree in accounting, finance, business administration or similiar field
  • Deep knowledge of WIP accounting , earned revenue, job cost forecasting, and billing practices
  • Proven ability to lead and execute a disciplined monthly close
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, modeling)
  • Experience working with external auditors and preparing audit-ready schedules
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills — able to lead across departments
