Metric Search has been retained by a rapidly scaling AI infrastructure company to hire a Controls Engineer for its Thermofluids R&D team. The role centers on control architectures for a new chiller, safe operation, HIL validation, and production integration.

Hybrid work from New York is offered; you will design and verify control systems for rotating machinery, work with VFDs, and ensure robust interlocks and reliable documentation.

Qualifications

• You've written control logic for rotating machinery and commissioned it on a live machine.
• You've designed interlocks where a fault means destroyed hardware or an injured person.
• You've run HIL testing that caught something real before commissioning.
• You've tuned loops on a live plant and reconciled model vs hardware behaviour.
• You've handed a control system to users with usable 3am documentation.

Responsibilities

• Develop control architectures for a new chiller and its test rigs, including compressor, motor drive, and loop control.
• Implement safety interlocks and fault handling for high-risk machinery.
• Perform hardware-in-the-loop validation of the full control system.
• Transition controls from test cell to production and integrate with site BMS.
• Collaborate with senior engineers to ensure reliability and documentation for operators.
