Job summary

The J.M. Smucker Co. in Buffalo, NY is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to lead site controls, automation, and electrical power systems at the MilkBone manufacturing plant.

You will own the automation roadmap, drive modernization initiatives, mentor E&I technicians, and collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering to solve complex manufacturing challenges. This 100% on-site, day-shift role requires willingness to work off shift as needed, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• 2-year diploma or Bachelor's in automation/controls.
• Understanding of controls or electrical engineering.
• Strong written and verbal communication.
• Manufacturing experience in food/pet food/CPG.
• Knowledge of machine control hardware and software.
• Experience with robotics and Motoman or similar.
• Knowledge of NFPA and OSHA electrical standards.
• Strong troubleshooting, PM, and CI skills.
• Eagerness to learn new technologies and mentor others.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the site's technical expert for controls, automation, and electrical power systems.
• Lead automation, controls, and electrical projects to improve reliability and plant performance.
• Drive the site's controls and power systems roadmap and modernization initiatives.
• Partner with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering to solve manufacturing challenges.
• Develop and mentor E&I technicians.
• Support robotics, PLCs, HMIs, MES applications, and advanced manufacturing technologies.
• Leverage manufacturing data and analytics to improve performance.
• Champion electrical safety and NFPA/OSHA compliance.
• Lead capital projects from concept to startup.
• Influence future technology strategy of the Buffalo facility.
