Job summary

Corning Incorporated is seeking a Senior Engineer, Controls to lead PLC/HMI automation projects across sites in NY and NC, with significant travel and onsite work. You will design, install, and commission control systems for capital projects and plant upgrades.

This role sits within Corning's MT&E Automation Controls Systems Engineering organization, collaborating with internal teams and external integrators to deliver robust automation solutions nationwide.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of professional experience in industrial controls, automation, or machine control engineering.
• Experience with PLC programming in Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or Omron.
• Experience with control systems design, HMI development, and closed-loop control systems.
• Knowledge of electrical schematics, industrial networking, and controls integration in manufacturing environments.
• Must be available for significant travel, primarily domestic.

Responsibilities

• Support controls engineering projects through design, build, installation, startup, and commissioning phases.
• Develop and modify PLC and HMI programs for manufacturing equipment and automation systems.
• Participate in the development of control architectures, functional specifications, and system integration requirements.
• Work with internal engineering teams, plant personnel, and external system integrators to deliver automation solutions.
• Review electrical schematics, panel layouts, and controls documentation; support updates during project execution.
• Assist with offline testing, equipment integration, and production startup support.
• Troubleshoot controls and automation issues related to programming and system performance.
• Support industrial networking and communications required for machine integration.
• Document engineering work, project updates, and technical results to support execution.
