Job summary

GE Appliances, a Haier company, Louisville, KY, seeks a Principal Controls Engineer to lead advanced control system design and implementation for manufacturing equipment.

You will specify architectures, select hardware/software (Rockwell-centric), develop PLC programming and HMI, and mentor engineers. On-site work with periodic travel, ensuring safety compliance and timely project delivery.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of hands-on & relevant controls engineering experience with automated manufacturing equipment and processes.
• Experience with Rockwell Automation control systems, Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View.
• Knowledge and practice of machine safety (ISO 13849).
• Ability to work in large cross-functional teams and at multiple levels in the organization.

Responsibilities

• Specify and design advanced control systems for automation equipment, ensuring compliance with specifications, internal standards, budget constraints, and current machine safety standards.
• Specify and develop detailed control system architectures, select and integrate hardware/software components (primarily Rockwell Automation products). Create PLC programming, HMI development, and network configurations.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and refine manufacturing processes.
• Analyze system performance data, identify improvement areas, and implement changes to enhance efficiency, productivity, and safety.
• Stay abreast of emerging technologies in industrial control systems, including robotics and machine safety.
• Oversee implementation of control systems, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to project specs.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex control system issues to minimize downtime.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams; develop less experienced controls engineers.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations; lead machine safety risk assessments.
