Actalent is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to lead controls for large web converting machinery projects in Paterson, NJ. You will own controls activities from order intake through final site acceptance, partnering with mechanical and other engineering disciplines and interfacing with customers.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years PLC programming experience with Allen-Bradley.
• 5+ years configuring VFDs and servo drives in industrial automation.
• 5+ years on-site installation and start-up in industrial environments.
• Strong experience with operator risk assessments and SIL safety ratings.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the controls lead for large projects from intake to site acceptance.
• Oversee design, development, testing, commissioning, and handover.
• Attend customer meetings to gather requirements and provide guidance.
• Select electrical/automation components to meet performance and safety specs.
• Produce electrical print packages and project documentation.
• Integrate controls with mechanical designs and overall machine function.
• Develop, test, and validate PLC software (Allen-Bradley).
• Design and implement HMI/SCADA applications (Wonderware/FactoryTalk).
• Configure and commission VFDs/servo drives with PLC/motion control.
• Perform testing and debugging for controls performance and safety.
• Provide on-site installation and start-up support, ensuring customer satisfaction.
• Contribute to product standardization and reusable architectures.
• Mentor junior staff in programming, controls, HMI/SCADA, commissioning.
