Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer in Birmingham, AL, to design, develop, and implement advanced control systems for high-power electrical equipment and integrated energy systems. You will own BOMs, write PLC/CODESYS code, and work across Linux-based environments to deliver scalable, maintainable solutions.

You will lead cross-functional teams, mentor junior engineers, and drive design reviews, FAT, and field commissioning, ensuring robust, safe, and manufacturable designs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related field.
• 7+ years of experience in industrial controls, automation, or power systems engineering.
• Experience programming PLC platforms and CODESYS environments.
• Strong Linux-based systems experience and scripting.
• Experience integrating high‑power electrical systems with inverters and drives.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop control systems for high‑power applications, including overall system architecture, control strategies, and detailed design deliverables.
• Own BOMs, I/O lists, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts to support production and field deployment.
• Program and maintain control software across PLC, CODESYS, and Linux platforms.
• Integrate control systems with inverters, drives, and other power electronics.
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless product development.
• Lead design reviews and mitigate risks early in the design process.
