Job summary

Actalent is seeking an Embedded Controls Engineer in Boston to support the controls layer of automated machinery. You will maintain a soft PLC platform (CODESYS) on Linux-based IPCs connected to electrical panels, untangle complex logic, optimize global variables, and improve deployment reliability.

This role sits at the intersection of hardware and software, requiring an embedded mindset and the ability to work in a constrained IDE environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering or related field.
• Strong experience in Embedded Software Engineering with C/C++.
• Willingness to learn Structured Text and the CODESYS IDE.

Responsibilities

• Own maintenance, debugging, and optimization of soft PLC code (CODESYS/Structured Text) on local IPCs.
• Refactor code to improve reliability and testing methodologies.
• Manage remote deployments and rollbacks to industrial hardware in the field.
• Troubleshoot electro‑mechanical systems, sensors, and barcode integrations on machinery.
• Collaborate with mechanical and software teams to bridge software and hardware controls.
• Create and maintain detailed technical documentation and runbooks.
